Damien B. Schlarb works as Assistant Professor of American Studies (limited term) at Johannes Gutenberg-University, Mainz, Germany, where he teaches courses in American literature and culture. He earned his Ph.D. from Georgia State University (U.S.A.). His research interests include American literary romanticism, literary postsecularism, Afrofuturism, and Digital Game Studies. He has served as layout editor for South Atlantic Review and managing editor for Amerikastudien / American Studies. His first book, Melville’s Wisdom: Religion, Skepticism, and Literature in Nineteenth-Century America, has appeared with Oxford University Press in 2021. He currently works on a book on video games.
